Collection: Jean Edwards

I have been painting now for twenty years starting with drawing and then oils and on to watercolour and now mainly mixed media. In love with the natural surroundings, mostly landscapes especially trees, my recent paintings are predominantly trees in different forms. Painted in an impressionistic style, I like colour and atmosphere.

I take inspiration from the natural landscape around me so my paintings are predominately trees, streams and meadows, which reflect magical sunlight and shadows

During the 1990s I was an etcher, mainly using printmaking facilities at Avenue Campus, Northampton and then at Leicester Print Workshop when it was in Knighton Lane. I have recently returned to printmaking after a ten year gap. Attending courses on collagraphs, lithography, Gum Arabic Transfer printing, drypoint and monoprinting at Leicester Print Workshop helped me to regain and develop my skills and understanding of printmaking processes. I now make collagraphs using a variety of markmaking and collage techniques. At present my work is small scale enough to print at home on a small press. My prints are inspired by local landscape and buildings as well as drawings made on visits to museums and galleries. I have also begun to make and print small handmade cards. In the last two years I have exhibited prints at local exhibitions in Kettering, Northampton and Woburn as well as participating in the Northampton Sunday Art Markets.
