Beatrice Hoffman
Beatrice Hoffman is a sculptor and painter working in an expressive contemporary style making fine sculptures in cold cast bronze, many with a Cubist feel, and the larger are most suitable for garden and outdoor display.
The sculptures of both single figures and couples convey an archetypal experience. They are simplified to reveal the essence of a state of being, or of a moment, whether dancing, expectant, or restful. With her sculptures of heads, Hoffman simplifies the forms to achieve clear lines and smooth taut surfaces, while playing with the scale and proportion of specific features. Multiple heads are fused together with curves, arches and caves. They are distorted and stylised; hard angles are juxtaposed with more rounded surfaces. She describes complex relationships that can be simultaneously interpreted as an internal reality, or as a real couple. The sculpted heads reflect a psychological interest in what drives human beings to become what they are.
Beatrice studied in Norwich for a BA sculpture Fine Art degree (1989), and in St. Albans for a post-graduate degree in art therapy (1990). She has undertaken numerous private commissions and one public commission for Norwich City Council (1991). Her work is found in many fine galleries and private collections throughout Europe |
